X-on Health is proud to announce that Surgery Connect has received Clinical Authority to Release (CATR) from the NHS England Clinical Safety Group. This is a formal recognition of our commitment to the highest standards of clinical safety, compliance and quality.

This approval confirms that Surgery Connect meets NHS England’s stringent clinical safety requirements, cementing our position as one of the first suppliers on the Better Purchasing Framework (BPF) to achieve this level of assurance. For practices and primary care networks across the UK, it means they can continue to rely on a telephony platform that is not only proven in performance but also validated at a national level for clinical safety.

Setting the standard in safe, compliant technology

The Clinical Authority to Release is part of NHS England’s new review process under the Better Purchasing Framework. While all suppliers signed declarations confirming they had clinical safety processes in place, the latest NHSE checks have gone much further, evaluating each system’s adherence to the DCB0129 clinical safety standard and the rigour of the processes behind it.

Achieving this sign-off wasn’t a box-ticking exercise. It required evidence of robust safety management systems, risk controls and ongoing governance embedded across product design, implementation and support. It’s a process many suppliers are still navigating, and one that not all will pass. By contrast, Surgery Connect has had a fully embedded clinical safety process for over five years, with continuous oversight from a dedicated compliance team. This recognition from NHS England reflects years of investment and diligence in ensuring the system remains safe, compliant and aligned with evolving NHS standards.

What this means for practices

For the 3,600 surgeries already using Surgery Connect, some for more than a decade, the CATR provides added assurance that their telephony platform, and ongoing product development activity, continues to meet the most stringent clinical safety requirements set by NHS England.

With the BPF designed to streamline procurement and ensure only trusted, clinically assured solutions remain available to the NHS, this milestone reinforces Surgery Connect’s position as a leading, future-ready Cloud telephony solution for primary care. Practices can continue to procure Surgery Connect with confidence, knowing it supports compliance with both current and emerging NHS frameworks, including the latest GP contract requirements around access, safety and data reporting.

Strengthening our foundation for growth

This achievement also positions X-on Health for the next phase of digital transformation within primary care. As NHS England continues to refine supplier frameworks, we expect some current providers to face challenges in securing clinical safety approval, creating opportunities for growth and partnership across new regions and ICBs.

“Surgery Connect has long been trusted as the foundation of patient access in primary care. Receiving Clinical Authority to Release from NHS England reaffirms what our customers have always known: safety, reliability and compliance are at the heart of everything we do. It’s a recognition not just of our technology, but of the people and processes that ensure it delivers for patients and practices every day.”

Ahead of the curve

At a time when digital transformation in primary care demands both innovation and assurance, Surgery Connect continues to lead from the front, combining a clinically safe telephony foundation with the flexibility and integration needed to power modern, data-driven patient access.

With updated clinical safety sign-off in place, X-on Health is proud to stand ahead of the curve and continue delivering technology that’s as safe as it is transformative.
