X-on Health is delighted to announce that Surgery Intellect, powered by TORTUS, has received IM1 assurance to file to record for clinical systems EMIS and TPP/SystmOne.
This makes Surgery Intellect the first ambient scribe to support face-to-face and telephone consultations, while also enabling clinician-approved notes to be filed directly back to the patient record. It marks an important step in the safe, governed use of ambient voice technology (AVT) in primary care, reducing manual admin and duplication.
What IM1 assurance means
IM1 assurance confirms that Surgery Intellect, powered by TORTUS, meets national expectations for secure and appropriate write-back into clinical systems, once content has been reviewed and approved by a clinician.
For practices, this means:
- Consultation summaries can be filed directly into the patient record
- Clinicians remain fully in control of what is written back
- Less manual copying and pasting after clinics
- More consistent, structured documentation
For Surgery Intellect, powered by TORTUS, file to record supports both face-to-face and telephone consultations. With telephone appointments making up for around 30% of GP consultations (NHS England, 2025)1, this ensures more patient interactions are accurately captured without adding workload.
File to record is enabled through an upcoming Phonebar update, where it will be switched on as part of the upgrade. No change to day-to-day workflows is required.

Designed for safe, real-world deployment
With X-on Health and TORTUS AI both recognised on NHS England’s AVT Self-Certified Supplier Registry, Surgery Intellect is built for safe use in live GP settings.
It combines:
- Deep understanding of primary care workflows
- Clinician-led approval before write-back
- Strong foundations in clinical safety, governance and interoperability
This ensures practices can adopt file to record with confidence, aligned to NHS expectations for ambient voice technology.
A step towards end-to-end documentation
